Product Description

A celebratory pechuga from the Ángeles family of Santa Catarina Minas, this clay-pot–distilled mezcal is an easy-drinking, highly expressive bottle that wins over many who taste it. Made from Espadín and red plantain and red banana added during the third distillation, it features bright fruit notes, gentle spice, and a soft, earthy sweetness balanced by the signature minerality of Real Minero’s ancestral process.

About Real Minero

Real Minero is an acclaimed, family-run mezcal house from Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca, celebrated for its deep commitment to traditional production and the protection of local agave biodiversity. The Ángeles family — including maestro mezcalero Don Lorenzo Ángeles Mendoza and his children, Edgar and Graciela Ángeles — has been making mezcal for generations, using ancestral methods such as clay-pot distillation (ollas de barro), a hallmark of the Minas region.

The family is also renowned for its pioneering agave-reforestation and seed-bank initiatives, maintaining one of Mexico’s most respected agave conservation projects. Real Minero’s small-batch mezcales are typically crafted from agaves like Largo, Tripón, Barril, and Espadín, each expressing the mineral-rich soils and artisanal precision that define the house. Their work has positioned Real Minero as one of the most important guardians of traditional mezcal culture in Oaxaca.

About Mezcal Pechuga

Mezcal Pechuga is a traditional style in which a finished mezcal is redistilled with seasonal fruits, spices, and a raw protein—often a chicken, turkey, or other local meat—hung inside the still. According to Mezcal Reviews, this process infuses the spirit with aromatic depth and a silky texture while retaining its underlying agave character. Because the protein and botanicals are added during a final distillation rather than after, Pechuga mezcals typically show gentle spice, soft fruit notes, and rounded minerality, making them some of the most ceremonial and labor-intensive expressions in mezcal production.
